Maritime Resident Doctors set to celebrate 50th anniversary in 2019

Halifax, Jan. 10, 2019 – Maritime Resident Doctors is pleased to announce that 2019 marks 50 years of representing resident physicians as an association.

Founded on Feb. 20, 1969, the organization was originally named IRANS – the Internes and Residents Association of Nova Scotia – before changing the name in 1991 to PARI-MP – Professional Association of Residents In the Maritime Provinces. A final name change for the first half century took place in 2015, adopting the current title of Maritime Resident Doctors.

Today the organization represents over 550 residents physicians practicing in hospitals, healthcare centres and clinics throughout Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. The association handles collective bargaining and advocacy, as well as resident well-being and the administration of the resident benefits plan, among other things.

The 50th anniversary will be notable throughout 2019 with a logo modification for the year, and special touches to the many events held by the organization. The flagship event, however, will be a 50th anniversary cocktail reception, an opportunity to share stories, give well-wishes and reminisce on Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Lord Nelson hotel. Invitations and our RSVP platform will launch next week in anticipation of this celebratory evening.

Stay tuned for more info from Maritime Resident Doctors as we wrap our first half-century and begin our next one.
