Excellence in Teaching Award

Award Overview

The Excellence-in-Teaching Award is an annual award presented by Maritime Resident Doctors to a staff physician, who is also a team leader, who exemplifies their skills in patient care, teaching and interactions with residents. Residents are encouraged to nominate a preceptor who they feel is deserving of this award.

Nominees will be judged in several categories, including:

PATIENT CARE

  • Clinical excellence
  • Ability to relate to and appreciate patient needs and concerns
  • Patient communication and education


TEACHING

  • Quality of bedside teaching
  • Laboratory
  • Philosophy
  • Team approach
  • Ability to teach at different levels


PERSONAL INTERACTIONS

  • Effective communication with residents and colleagues
  • Ability to act as a role model
  • Interest in resident’s personal development and well-being


Nominations must include:

  1. Completed nomination form (see below)
  2. Letter describing reasons for nomination (max 500 words)

 

Process of choosing recipient:
The nominations will be reviewed by the Maritime Resident Doctors well-being committee, and the recipient will be chosen based on their contribution outlining the qualities this instructor has exemplified which have been useful to your education (e.g. time devoted, dedication, demeanour, etc.)  in the letter of support accompanying their nomination.

Award presentation:
One recipient will be chosen and presented with a framed certificate and a $500 donation will be made to the charity of their choice, on their behalf.  For more information, contact Leanne@mardocs.ca.
