November 2023 - Andrew Fenwick (PGY5, Radiology)
Maritime Resident Doctors is pleased to announce Andrew Fenwick, a PGY5 in Radiology, is our latest Resident of the Month.
Our Resident of the Month award aims to improve resident well-being by recognizing and rewarding resident colleagues with exceptional achievements while maintaining a work-life balance. The criteria includes academic accomplishments, research activities, social events, family life, community involvement, humanitarian service, leadership, and more.
Dr. Fenwick was nominated by his peers.
"Andrew was elected as chief resident and during his tenure was an outstanding leader, advocate and role model for the resident group," his nomination says. "He spent countless hours outside of work completing all of the tasks related to being chief but also went the extra mile to make sure residents had the best experience and opportunities possible. Not only is he extremely dedicated to the program and his colleagues but he has also contributed to a number of research projects, resident and medical student teaching."
In addition to his work within the hospital, his nomination goes on to outline Dr. Fenwick outside of work.
"Away from the hospital, Andrew makes any social gathering more positive and fun. He is truly a wonderful person who cares for those around him and is loved by his resident family. No one works harder or deserves recognition for all that they have done more than Andrew."
As the winner of this award, Dr. Fenwick will receive a $100 gift card.

March 2023 - David Forner (PGY5, Otolaryngology)
Maritime Resident Doctors is pleased to announce David Forner, a PGY5 in Otolaryngology, is our latest Resident of the Month.
Our Resident of the Month award aims to improve resident well-being by recognizing and rewarding resident colleagues with exceptional achievements while maintaining a work-life balance. The criteria includes academic accomplishments, research activities, social events, family life, community involvement, humanitarian service, leadership, and more.
Dr. Forner was nominated by his peers.
"Dave is one of the smartest, most caring, and hardest working people I have ever met," his nomination reads. "His knowledge-base is unparalleled, almost always having the answer to our questions and initiating informal teaching sessions in our (very limited) downtime. He is constantly going above and beyond to help out his co-residents, allied healthcare staff, and patients, often being the first person we go to when we need help professionally, or personally."
In addition to his knowledge and ability as a resident, Dr. Forner works to live a balanced lifestyle outside of medicine as well.
"Not only is he an amazing colleague and friends, but he is an incredible athlete, as this former power lifter just recently completed his first ultramarathon. All of our lives are certainly better having met and worked with him! We all wish him the best of luck as he transitions out of residency and into his fellowship, hoping to see him back here full-time in the future!"

February 2023 - Ashlyn Fong (PGY4, General Pathology)
Maritime Resident Doctors is pleased to announce Ashlyn Fong, a PGY4 in General Pathology, is our latest Resident of the Month.
Our Resident of the Month award aims to improve resident well-being by recognizing and rewarding resident colleagues with exceptional achievements while maintaining a work-life balance. The criteria includes academic accomplishments, research activities, social events, family life, community involvement, humanitarian service, leadership, and more.
Serving as chief resident of the General Pathology program, Dr. Fong was nominated by her peers.
"Since PGY1, she has been whole-heartedly committed to the continuous improvement in the residency program," her nomination reads. "She is well-respected and well-liked, as is evident with her interactions with medical students, laboratory staff, technicians, admin, and honestly everyone who walks through the building. In between studying and work, she continues to volunteer her time inside and outside of work promoting the lab specialties to medical students and is a clear leader in our program."
Her nomination goes on to say that she is quick to volunteer to pick up a call shift and always goes out of her way to support her colleagues.
"She is the first to support us in personal challenges and to celebrate our life milestones. Outside of work, Ashlyn exemplifies wellness (evident through her many submissions to MarDocs photo contests, which usually include her two dogs, Kaiya and Kaito). She truly deserves this recognition, for all of her contributions to the program and to her co-residents."
